Don’t Let One Oil Spill Ruin It All

by Brandon Kiser

The explosion of an oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico and the subsequent massive oil leak is a depressing disaster. Not only were 11 of the workers on the rig killed, but now the Gulf coast is facing a potential and catastrophic spill of oil into important seafood harvesting areas and some of nation’s most fragile ecosystems.

We cannot, however, allow one oil spill to ruin the advances we’ve made in domestic oil production—an important step in being as close as we can get to energy independence. As President Obama himself said, “oil rigs today don’t generally cause spills.” And he’s right, they don’t. When the explosion first occurred, the Coast Guard assumed that the oil deposit wan’t leaking into the Gulf. Presumably because it just doesn’t happen often.

The fact is, we can’t be secure and prosper as a nation as we have been without adapting to the need for oil no matter how large of a “renewable” energy push we take. Sure, we need to invest in renewable energy, but don’t let yourself believe that one spill is a reason to give up on all-of-the-above approach to energy independence.

“O”, a Lie
by Ian Pringle

As I was driving home the other day from school I gave the country channels a break and flipped on WTIC. They were talking about how the Obama Administration was trying to get a feel for the next big “issue”. The two options were immigration reform or financial reform. As I listened to these two guys were discussing which option the GOP was going to roll with. It occurred to me, the administartion already promised the American people a new issue to tackle; JOBS.

Has everyone forgot the State of the Union address? President Obama promised us a jobs bill. “Jobs must be our number one focus in 2010, and that is why I am calling for a new jobs bill tonight. People are out of work. They are hurting. They need our help. And I want a jobs bill on my desk without delay.” Now, despite the fact that the government’s “help” is the reason for our jobs issue, I am still disappointed that Obama has done such a terrible job keeping that promise. After pushing government health-care on a dismayed population, one would think our president would have signed in a 3,000-page jobs bill within the week

Instead Mr. Obama signed in a $17.6 billion jobs bill in March. The bill is hardly the “focus” we were looking for. Oddly, and luckily, it appears that November is looming over the DNC and their plummeting poll numbers. The Regime has done an amazing job at secretly making immigration the hot button issue. In fact if they pushed jobs like they did immigration every American could have a job right now. Like any good liberal, Obama wants amnesty for all 15,000,000 of the illegal aliens in this country and with a voting bloc 15,000,000 strong, it is easy to see why Obama could care less about a silly jobs bill that would only help the legal Americans.

Not a Boycott, a Buycott!
by Lyda Loudon

In an effort to deal with crime and other problems unique to their state, Arizona passed legislation to allow state level enforcement of federal laws already on the books. It simply provides that people who are in their state, who have broken the law to get there and committed a crime in addition, can be detained and prosecuted. Sounds reasonable, right? God bless them for that! If it was up to me – I would have every state in this country do the same. If you are going to live in my country, you are going to abide by our laws. I would go one step further and say that if you are going to live here, you need to learn English, too. It’s that simple. America is all about freedom, and we should have freedom from dangerous, illegal criminals.

Still, many people disagree. Many people think that Arizona is being too strict about it. I do not.

An effort has been launched that gives people all around America the opportunity to stand with Arizona and say, “We are not going to take this! Rock on, Arizona. We will stand beside you!” While some people are boycotting Arizona this effort gives us the opportunity to do the opposite and BUYcott Arizona. A BUYcott is simply talking with your pocketbook. A recent BUYcott was in St. Louis for Whole Foods when their CEO, Jon Mackey spoke out against ObamaCare. His actions elicited a boycott, and patriots in St. Louis did a BUYcott in response.

Now we have the opportunity to stand with our friends for the free market in Arizona. For your vacation this year, why not take a vacation to Arizona? Having a retreat? What better place to have it than Arizona? Send a message to the rest of the country that says, “When you boycott something we support, we’ll BUYcott it.”
