Democratic leader dismisses GOP hopes for a House takeover

Democrats will lose seats in Congress, but not enough to lose control of the House, according to a Democratic leader.

House Majority Whip James Clyburn (D-S.C.) on Thursday dismissed suggestions that this November’s midterm contests would sweep the GOP into control of the House, saying he didn’t think Republicans could win back the majority.

“I think that all 435 seats are in play every two years,” Clyburn said on the liberal Bill Press radio show. “Will they pick up the 40 votes necessary to take over the House? I don’t think so.”
