What’s in a name? For the residents around L.A.’s Glassell Park street, the answer is: everything.
The notoriously violent neighborhood was home to some of the most vicious gang violence in the decades past. Now, the community wants to change the street’s name as a way put some distance between itself and the past.
Some of the more family-friendly suggestions include: Rainbow Place, Marshmallow Place, Cotton Road, Sumi Street, Juntos Street and Hope Street.
While pleasant sounding names didn’t help the residents of Elm St., it’s hoped that this change will better reflect the neighborhood’s cleaner, safer streets.
