DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. – A woman was sentenced to four-and-a-half years in prison Friday for serving her husband, a Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputy, a meal laced with poison.

Lisa Allen pleaded guilty to 2nd Degree Assault, avoiding trial on a charge of attempted murder.

FOX31's Heidi Hemmat spoke to Jon Allen a few weeks before his wife's sentencing. He admitted there was some trouble in his marriage.

He says his wife Lisa Allen was depressed, had threatened suicide and was spending a lot of time with a mutual male friend, still he says “I was committed and thought we were going to grow old together.”

That is, until he realized his wife was planning his untimely death. “It probably took several months to even comprehend the woman I love had tried to kill me,” Allen says.
