More than three months after the murder of a well-known attorney, police have charged the woman who was the first to tell them about it.

On Tuesday afternoon, 67-year-old Julia Phillips was charged with murder in the strangling death of 79-year-old Melvin Roberts.

Roberts was a prominent attorney, former York mayor and well-known business leader.

He was found dead outside his home on the night of Feb. 4 with a plastic tie around his neck that police say was used to strangle him. He had also been struck in the head, and shot at. Police said the bullet pierced his jacket and the collar of his shirt, but did not hit him.
