The White House appeared to confirm Sunday that the Obama administration had some kind of conversations with Representative Joe Sestak, the Pennsylvania Democrat who was challenging Senator Arlen Specter, but asserted that the conversations were not inappropriate.
Mr. Sestak has maintained that the White House, which backed Mr. Specter, offered him a job in exchange for dropping out of the race. He did not leave the race and went on to defeat Mr. Specter last week for the Democratic nomination.
