Dino Rossi, a two-time Republican nominee for governor in Washington, is set to announce, likely on Wednesday, that he is running for Senate, according to a G.O.P. official.
Mr. Rossi has long been discussed as a potential challenger to Senator Patty Murray, a Democrat seeking her fourth term, and is seen as the National Republican Senatorial Committee’s preferred candidate.
His entry into the race adds to an already crowded Republican field that also includes Don Benton, a state senator, and Clint Didier, a former NFL tight end that has been wooing Tea Party activists and recently gained the support of Sarah Palin.
