DETROIT — A 91-year-old man collapsed and died Wednesday after chasing a thief who had just stolen a winning casino ticket from him, Detroit police said.

Police said Southgate resident Frank Pierce had just won $240 at Greektown Casino when a man approached him and snatched the ticket.

Police said Pierce chased the man outside the casino and flagged down two police officers near Monroe and Beaubien streets.

Pierce was able to point the officers in the direction that the man had fled, but collapsed on the street and was rushed to an area hospital, where he later died.
