Armando Galarraga was one out away from recording the third perfect game of the year and the 21st in baseball history. But when he stepped on the bag and caught the ball for the final out a step and a half ahead of the batter, he was shocked to turn and see the safe call given by umpire Jim Joyce.
Joyce has since acknowledged that the call was a mistake, but the league has yet to make a decision on whether to overturn the call. Since it was one of the biggest mistakes by an official in sports history, we decided to recall the most boneheaded calls ever.
