CAÑON CITY, Colo. — Cañon City students can now be disciplined for what they text and type. Cyber-bullying is now officially banned under the Cañon City code of conduct.

As times change, it seems so must the rules. “What we did is to expand the section that deals with hazing, to include not only physical or mental abuse, but also include any electronic harassment or hazing,” said Cañon City School District Superintendent Robin R. Gooldy.

“Hazing and harassment has always been against the rules,” said Gooldy.

The school board decided to proactively revise the student athletics and activities handbook to ban other forms of bullying. “We’ve defined it a little further to include electronic means.”
