A story that came from a former North Las Vegas police officer had neighbors living in fear. Months later, they’re learning it was all a lie, and the only person who put them in danger was the man with the badge.

31-year-old Bryan Kolstad claimed he was shot by a suspect back in February and that his badge saved his life. Now, it appears that was not true at all.

Kolstad turned himself in on Tuesday morning on misdemeanor charged connected to his alleged bogus story.

The former officer claimed that a black male suspect shot at him at an apartment complex near Deer Springs and McCarran, and said he was able to shoot the suspect in the right shoulder.

A lengthy investigation has revealed that there was likely never a suspect.
