Cycling-Tour crowds a blessing and a curse for uneasy peleton

While the Tour de France is proving a huge draw for cycling-mad fans in the early stages across Netherlands and Belgium, the vast numbers of people lining the roadside has caused some unease in the peleton.

Some 2.7 million fans lined the roads of the first stage from Rotterdam to Brussels on Sunday according to police figures, and there were tens of thousands in the Belgian capital before the start of the second stage to Spa on Monday.

Lance Armstrong, as befitting a seven-time Tour champion, is attracting the most attention but the American, while welcoming the large turnout, was not the only rider to express some concern.
