As a woman who plays the tough chick in action movies, Angelina Jolie is a remarkably sensitive wife and mother.

The actress spoke about her family’s life in the limelight during a behind-the-scenes interview with PARADE.

The “homebound” couple, as Jolie describes her relationship with actor Brad Pitt, are “very much Mommy and Daddy in our pajamas.” While the pair may love the comforts of home, however, they may not go out in public in an effort to protect the children. In fact, the mother of six makes sure her children aren’t even aware of the paparazzi’s presence.

“We do everything we can to keep our kids away from it,” says Jolie. “We don’t stand in the checkout line at the grocery store looking at the magazines. Our friends don’t tell us about it. And our kids don’t know. I feel if we keep looking out for them, they’ll be fine.”

Despite her role as a nurturing mother, the bad-ass woman on the silver screen does reflect the starlet’s rebellious past. Jolie admits that she was “searching for something deeper, something more” when she cut herself, got tattoos, and went skydiving.

The wild behavior, apparently, was provoked by the roles she played.

“I went through a period when I felt my film characters were having more fun than I was. It might partly explain why I ended up tattooed or doing certain extreme things in my life.”

With busy schedules – her new action movie “Salt” premieres July 23 – Jolie emphasizes that her family strives for normalcy and intimacy no matter what. “We’re together all the time. We plan. Brad and I take time off between films to travel, have big experiences, do things together. That’s how we work it out.”

The full interview with Angelina Jolie appears in the July 11 issue of PARADE in the Sunday newspaper.
