Democrat Jeff Greene only raised $3,036 dollars for his Florida Senate campaign over the last two months, according to FEC filings. But this definitely doesn’t mean he has a money problem.

The Miami Herald reported that Greene, a billionaire, spent more than $5.8 million in May and June. He reportedly has told friends that he’ll spend $40 million to win, but a campaign spokesman called that number “unsubstantiated and incorrect.”

Greene is facing fellow Democrat Kendrick Meek in the state’s August primary. The winner of that contest will likely face Republican Marco Rubio and independent Gov. Charlie Crist in November.

Greene, whose colorful past includes friendships with Mike Tyson and Heidi Fleiss, refuses to take campaign contributions from special interests, and limits individual donations to his campaign to $100. The names of his donors are not listed on FEC reports because election law does not require such disclosure for donations that small.
