An overnight traffic stop that began with an expired inspection sticker and obscured rear license plate ended in with the arrest of a passenger on two felony drug charges and one misdemeanor.

Pct. 4 Deputy J. Bergland was patrolling Newton Drive in New Caney around 1 a.m. Thursday morning when he stopped the vehicle regarding the two visible violations. As he approached, he noticed the passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.

The passenger, 26-year-old Nicole Ileen Murphy of New Caney, exhibited signs of methamphetamine use, and the deputy recognized her as a repeat offender. Deputy Bergland received their consent to search the vehicle and found no contraband, but had reason to believe Murphy was concealing an illegal substance on her person. Deputy Bergland took Murphy into custody for the seatbelt violation and transported her to the Montgomery County Jail. During the subsequent interview process, Murphy admitted to Bergland that she was concealing methamphetamine in her vaginal cavity, and voluntarily removed it.
