Former Rep. Tom Tancredo will run for governor of Colorado on a third-party ticket, he told the Denver Post.

“I will officially announce at noon that I will seek the nomination of the constitution party,” Tancredo said.

The former presidential candidate — best known for his ardent views on immigration — had caused a ruckus by saying he’ll make a third-party run if the two leading Republicans candidates did not agree to an ultimatum from him. Those conditions were that both GOP candidates, plagued by ethics scandals, had to publicly pledge to drop out of the race — and allow the party to nominate someone else — after the primary election if polls show Democrats leading. Both publicly refused.

He told The Daily Caller in an interview last week that he is absolutely serious about running a hard-fought campaign. “I will run as hard as I can,” Tancredo said.

A Colorado television station reported that a coalition of Tea Party groups penned a letter asking him not to get in the race.

Republicans have said his entrance into the race would be disastrous, and would cause Democrats to win in November.
