The Town Council on Monday approved spending $2,500 in the police protection line to provide community coverage before, during and after the July 31 Chelsea Clinton wedding rumored to be in Rhinebeck.

The funding was authorized during a Town Board meeting, with officials noting the money will come from an existing $77,000 budget line and allow up to 50 hours of coverage between July 30 and August 1.

“Based upon my conversations with state police Capt. Scott Brown and the (Dutchess County) Sheriff’s Office, it would be helpful to provide extra service,” town Supervisor Thomas Traudt said.

Councilwoman Gina Fox drew laughter from the audience of about 30 people when quickly adding that the funding was for “nothing happening” over the weekend.
