History was made on The View this week and it wasn’t just that Barack Obama was the first sitting president to appear on what I consider the women’s weekday version of Meet the Press.
Real history was made because our current president admitted in front of millions that he was dissed by a former president and his own Secretary of State.
How humiliating was it for Obama when asked on The View if he was going to The Royal Chelsea Wedding — and to have to admit that he was NOT INVITED?
This bombshell, tailor made for the cover of US Magazine was the big take away from an otherwise predictable “charm the chicks” presidential campaign appearance.
Headlines are screaming the news everywhere – even in Pravda. (I am not kidding check out the link.) Obviously the Russians think this is an important international development.
What does it mean for the future of US/ Russia relations? Does Putin think Obama is now weakened as a leader and will use that to his advantage? Is Hillary the rising power?
Speaking of Russia, this reminds me of the old Kremlin military parade-watching line up signaling which Russian leader was in or out—- for right now savvy political operatives are meeting to determine what Obama NOT INVITED means for Bill and Hillary’s future plans.
It all has to mean something. After all, if you were the Mother of the Bride and your big big boss happened to be a Nobel Peace Prize winner, wouldn’t you invite him to your daughter’s
multi- million dollar wedding just to make table conversation more interesting for your guests?
Even more reason is this wedding is its own economic stimulus package for Rhinebeck, New York and you know how much he loves economic stimulus.
Is Hillary blowing a big job promotion by this wedding invite blow-off?
Or did the Father of the Bride, the Mother of the Bride and the Bride all sit down and say:
“If we invite Steven Spielberg and Barbra Streisand, that is enough star power to light up the heavens, so why don’t we use this little occasion to show The president we still remember
2008 and keep him a little on edge about our plans for 2012?
Or consider this scenario: the wedding is happening — the Obama’s are tending to the tomatoes in the White House garden, like they do every weekend, and everyone assumes they were invited but did not attend since it was Chelsea’s big day after all.
Instead, having to admit a king-size diss on national television makes one look… well… sort of rejected from the A list. Worst of all, the ladies on The View just assumed The president got invited and thus the question was, are you going, NOT did you get an invite? Ouch. Paper Cut.
So here is Obama’s “teachable moment,” (because we know how much he loves those as well).
Going forward President Obama should avoid shows like The View and appear on more hard news shows like Meet the Press or its Sunday equivalents. (Even if Michelle doesn’t watch.) That way he would never get asked such an embarrassing question.
