Ryan Kalish was not stopping at third base, he wanted to score. After a pinch-hit single by Daniel Nava, Kalish raced toward home from second base. The Red Sox were trailing, 6-2, in the seventh inning and Kalish wanted to provide a spark. So he ran as fast as he could, hoping to beat Shin-Soo Choo’s throw to the plate.

He did not.

Kalish watched the ball reach the glove of catcher Carlos Santana and with little time to react, Kalish attempted to slide between Santana’s legs. Kalish was called out, but his right foot crashed into Santana’s left knee. Immediately after the play, Kalish said he could tell something was wrong with Cleveland’s best young prospect.
