West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin’s office confirmed Friday evening that federal investigators had contacted his office this week looking for information, but it said they had not been informed that the Democratic governor or any other state employee was the subject of a probe.

“The State has not been informed that Governor Manchin or any other state employee is under investigation,” read a statement from the governor’s office.

Citing an anonymous source, the West Virginia Watchdog blog reported Friday afternoon that Manchin was subpoenaed as part of a federal grand jury investigation into whether he had “complied with bidding and state contract requirements.” Federal investigators are seeking contracts and records for businesses that did work at — and provided services for parties at — the governors mansion, the blog reported.
