Alaska Libertarians: No ballot switch

The Alaska Libertarian Party will not swap its chosen nominee for Sen. Lisa Murkowski if she loses the GOP nomination.

“We have decided that we will not offer the nomination to Lisa Murkowski for the Senate seat, even if came to that, because of fundamental differences,” said Alaska Libertarian Party Chairman Scott Kohlhaas.

In what could be one of the biggest upsets in Alaskan political history, Murkowski trails Miller by 1,668 votes in the race for the GOP nomination — with more than 20,000 ballots still to be counted, a process that will start Tuesday. But if Murkowski loses the GOP nomination, her only two options to stay in the race were to run as a write-in candidate, or try to take the place of the Libertarian Party’s nominee.
