PALM BAY, Fla. — A Palm Bay mother was arrested for driving drunk while in the bus loop at an elementary school, according to a police report released Friday.

Only school buses usually pull into the bus loop at Christa McCauliffe Elementary School, but police say 38-year-old Andrea Vellender drove her car down the stretch and bumped into a van Wednesday.

When police arrived at the scene around 2:30pm Wednesday to investigate the fender bender, the officer said Vellender’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot. The officer at the scene asked her what happened and she said her foot slipped off the brake and her vehicle hit the van in front of her.

Vellender was asked to take a series of field sobriety tests. In addition to failing the field tests, police said two breathalyzer tests revealed her blood-alcohol content was .240 and .241, both three times over the legal limit.
