For actor Tony Danza, ‘Teach,’ was a good career move; principal praises him

With the premiere of his reality show, “Teach,” tonight, actor Tony Danza says he’s nervous.

Though, it’s not so much the fear of looking foolish as many reality-TV show “stars” do. Neither is it fear over whether his latest attempt to revive a stalled career will fail.

It’s whether the show will do justice to one of America’s most demanding, yet thankless jobs – that of the public schoolteacher.

“Teachers are so beat up,” he said during a phone interview from his New York apartment yesterday.

“We live in a society where people aspire to be Joe Six Pack. I became embedded with the teachers and I just wanted to come back and tell their story.”

The show, airing at 10 p.m. on A&E, chronicles Danza’s experience as a first-year English teacher to a class of 26 sophomores at Northeast High School, the school district’s largest school.
