Former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee has a warning for his own party: Listen to the Tea Party movement or face the consequences.

Huckabee believes that Republicans, if they take control of Congress in January, must immediately move to fight the deficit or they will incur the wrath of the people who got them there.

“If Republicans take control of Congress and don’t move immediately to cut spending and make government operate efficiently and responsibly, they too will be voted out of office,” he said in an e-mail to The Daily Caller.

Huckabee described America as a “self-cleaning oven.” He said “when things get really nasty and the politicians gunk it up, the citizens can turn up the heat,” and that “the American people will sweep up the ashes and give it a new start.”

The 2008 presidential candidate whose populist, Main-St.-vs-Wall-St. anger made him “four years too early,” to lead disenfranchised independents in the Tea Party movement, said the “citizens uprising” will hold the powerful in check, no matter the party.
