Democratic Rep. Tom Perriello has been charged with a traffic violation following a car wreck in Virginia that left a 23-year-old woman injured.
Perriello, in the midst of a tough re-election fight, was charged by police with making an unsafe lane change, according to the Richmond Times-Dispatch.
That report said Perriello was not hurt in the Sunday night incident. Police have ruled out alcohol or speed as a factor.
Perriello, according to the report, struck the SUV carrying four people when he changed lanes. The 1996 Ford Explorer carrying the four passengers was forced off the road and into a median.
Perriello is facing Republican Robert Hurt in November.
