Left-leaning Washington Post columnist Eugene Robinson told The Daily Caller that while he has “a lot of respect” for Juan Williams, a former colleague at the Washington Post, he was surprised that Williams was able to reach audiences at both ends of the political spectrum for so long.

“It seems to me he was increasingly in a difficult position, trying to bridge Fox and NPR,” Robinson told TheDC. “You have to be something else to be able to do that. It’s a difficult trick.”

Williams was fired Wednesday from NPR for comments he made about Muslims on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor” on Monday.
