A new National Republican Senatorial Committee ad attacking California’s junior Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer targets women, a demographic with which Boxer’s Republican opponent Carly Fiorina polls badly.

The ad, called “Nothing Will Change,” features a female voice attacking Boxer for allegedly supporting “higher taxes,” “job crushing policies,” and for being a “ineffective” 28-year incumbent, as seven sad-looking women separately stare into the camera. The overall message is that “nothing will change” in Washington if Californians reelect the long time senator.

Boxer has received the endorsement of major women’s groups, such as Emily’s List, National Organization for Women PAC, and National Women’s Political Caucus. Fiorina opposes abortion, which has alienated many women in the traditionally liberal state. According to the Los Angeles Times, “A new Los Angeles Times/USC poll indicates that although Fiorina has a 2-point advantage over Boxer among men, she is trailing among women by 17 points.”

In a NRSC e-mail, Amber Marchand, a spokesperson for the NRSC, said of the ad: “Millionaire Senator Barbara Boxer has spent her entire career looking out for the best interests of one person: herself. Boxer’s partisan, ineffective work in Washington fighting for higher taxes and job killing policies haven’t helped the families, seniors, and job creators in California who are facing more than 12 percent unemployment today.”
