Republican Carly Fiorina’s senatorial campaign launched a new ad attacking Democratic incumbent Barbara Boxer for exaggerating facts when she talks about the economy and healthcare.

“Barbara Boxer is so desperate to save the only job she cares about – her own – she has resorted to blatant fabrications and extreme distortions of the truth,” Fiorina’s press secretary Andrea Saul stated.

The ad features video clips of Boxer talking about California’s bankruptcy rate, the number of people who died for lack of health insurance and tax cuts. It then fact checks the statements, projecting the real numbers over the video. According to the ad, Boxer’s facts are drastically off.

The ad is entitled “Truthiness,” a word that Stephen Colbert introduced five years ago on his show and Merriam-Webster’s word of the year for 2006, which it defines as “truth that comes from the gut, not books.”

Fiorina and Boxer are locked in a tight race for the seat that the Democrat has held for three terms. The latest poll, released on Monday, has Boxer leading by five points.
