Florida’s Democratic Senate candidate Kendrick Meek is accepting support from former President Bill Clinton at a Monday rally, even after Clinton tried to talk Meek into dropping out of the three-way race to give independent candidate Governor Charlie Crist a chance to beat GOP nominee Marco Rubio.

Clinton will stump for Meek and Florida’s Democratic gubernatorial candidate Alex Sink late Monday night and Meek’s campaign is welcoming Clinton’s efforts with open arms, even after the former president tried to get Meek out of the way.

“President Clinton is the first and strongest supporter of Kendrick Meek,” Adam Sharon, a Meek spokesman, said. “We’re all working together to make that event happen.”

Crist’s campaign declined to comment on the event.
