NEW YORK (AP) — New York City jail records show Lil Wayne has been freed after serving eight months for having a loaded gun on a tour bus.

The city’s Department of Correction website said Thursday the Grammy Award-winning rap star has been released from the Rikers Island jail complex. His managers have said he planned to head for his Miami home.

The multiplatinum-selling rapper emerges with his career in high gear. His latest album, “I Am Not a Human Being,” hit No. 1 on the chart after its September release.

The rapper told fans through a website Tuesday that he “was never scared, worried nor bothered” behind bars.

He pleaded guilty last year to attempted weapon possession. He started a yearlong sentence in March but got time off for good behavior.
