BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – The Birmingham Police Department is investigating how a handcuffed suspect got from the back seat of a patrol car and into the drivers seat.
The incident happened Saturday in the 2100 block of 13th Street North. Birmingham Police said Eric Shawn Smith stole a Birmingham Police car after he was arrested for being found with a stolen car.
Police say they are not sure how Smith was able to steal the police car while in handcuffs.
