Southern Miss officials today identified the victims of an early morning shooting as football players Martez Smith, 22, of Canton, Tim Green, 21, of Columbia, S.C., and Deddrick Jones, 23, of Bastrop, La.
All three are listed in fair and stable condition at Forrest General Hospital.
Green is a red-shirt freshman linebacker who has played in seven games. Smith is a fifth-year linebacker that has played in six games and started four while Jones is a junior defensive lineman who has started 10 games.
They were wounded around 1:30 a.m. at Remington’s Hunt Club, a nightclub at 1900 N. 31st Ave.
USM Vice President of Student Affairs Joe Paul said Gov. Haley Barbour called USM President Martha Saunders earlier today and offered his condolences and help from the state with the investigation.
