Cantor says GOP is eyeing term limits for leadership

Majority Leader-designate Eric Cantor said Monday that House Republicans are discussing the possibility of establishing term limits for top leadership positions, an idea he said he supports.

“In the context of leadership, I am for them,” the Virginian said in response to a student’s question about term limits during a forum at American University.

Cantor said he had never taken a stance on term limits for electing Members of Congress since “the voters will turn you out as quick as they put you in if you are not responding to their will.”

The party already has limits on committee chairmen and ranking members, but he said the party may establish limits for leadership.
