Boehner officially becomes Speaker of the House

DEVELOPING – – Ohio Republican Rep. John Boehner was officially selected to become Speaker of the House of Representatives Wednesday.

Boehner received the votes of all House Republicans. He received the votes of 241 out of 435 Representatives.

Outgoing Speaker Nancy Pelosi received 173 votes, with conservative Blue Dog Democratic Rep. Heath Shuler of North Carolina receiving 11.

Boehner represents Ohio’s 8th congressional district, comprising areas near Cincinatti and Dayton. He was first elected to Congress in 1990.

Ten of Boehner’s eleven siblings attended the swearing-in ceremony.
