KANKAKEE, Ill. (AP) — The waiting game continues for former Illinois Gov. George Ryan and his family as they hope he’ll be released from prison to visit his wife, who is in intensive care with cancer.

As of Thursday evening, no decision had been made by Charles Lockett, the warden at the prison camp in Terre Haute, Ind.

A spokesman also says U.S. prosecutors haven’t yet filed a response to Ryan’s request for release. After that, a court would rule.

Ryan has served three years of a 6 1/2-year sentence for racketeering, conspiracy, tax fraud and making false statements to the FBI.

His attorneys have said 76-year-old Lura Lynn Ryan is hospitalized in the couple’s hometown of Kankakee due to complications from chemotherapy, and she may have only hours or days to live.
