According to a new public policy poll, if the 2012 presidential election were held today, President Obama would win big against any potential Republican nominee – at least in Iowa.

Of the potential 2012 match-ups polled, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee fair the best against the president head-to-head in Iowa.

When put up against Huckabee, Obama leads with 47 percent to Huckabee’s 43 percent. Mitt Romney does second best against the president, attracting 41 percent support to the president’s 47 percent. Against Newt Gingrich, Obama is polled defeating the former House Speaker 51 percent to 38 percent.

According to the poll, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin fares the worst against the president in a hypothetical match-up in Iowa, only attracting 37 percent to the president’s 53 percent.
