Washington – John Dingell, 84, plans to run for a 30th term and extend his reign as the dean of the U.S. House.

“It’s the greatest job in the world,” Dingell, D-Dearborn, said today in acknowledging he’s fund-raising for a 2012 re-election. “I can help people and … make things better, and I represent some of the finest people on earth. The people in southeast Michigan are nothing short of wonderful.”

With Michigan losing population, the number of House seats will be whittled down from 15 to 14 in 2012. The GOP controls the state Legislature which will have the first crack at drawing up new lines and likely refashioning Dingell’s 15th district.
