Gray skies are gonna clear up: Rahm Emanuel’s mayoral dreams shattered

Font Size:

It really is vulgar and base to indulge in schadenfreude, which is why I’m having such a wonderful day. The Chicago Sun-Times brings joy into our lives:

Rahm Emanuel was thrown off the ballot for mayor of Chicago today by an appellate court panel, a stunning blow to the fund-raising leader in the race.

An appellate panel ruled 2-1 that Emanuel did not meet the residency standard to run for mayor.

Appellate judges Thomas Hoffman and Shelvin Louise Marie Hall ruled against Emanuel….

In today’s ruling, Hoffman wrote: “We … order that the candidate’s name be excluded (or if, necessary, be removed) from the ballot from Chicago’s Feb. 22, 2011.”

As Jim Rose quipped on Twitter: “Chicago fish markets buoyed!”

That has to sting, quitting your job as the right-hand man to the leader of the free world for nothing. I wonder what Rahm will do now? Hey, I hear Olbermann might be hiring…

P.S. Poor Andy Samberg must be crushed. This was just last Friday:

What’s up with an SNL cast member actively campaigning for a politician he portrays? Oh, that’s right, Rahm’s a Democrat. Never mind.

P.P.S. Awww. Well, it still can’t spoil my good mood.
