The mayor of a small town in the Washington, D.C. suburbs is settling a lawsuit he filed against a Maryland county after his dogs were shot to death during a SWAT team raid at his house.

Berwyn Heights Mayor Cheye Calvo will receive money from Prince George’s County under the settlement announced Monday, and he says he expects the deal will also reform how SWAT teams are deployed in the county. Details of the settlement weren’t disclosed.

Calvo’s dogs were shot by officers after a package of marijuana arrived at the mayor’s house. Police later said they believe the delivery was part of a scheme in which criminals send packages to unsuspecting recipients, then pick them up they’re noticed. Calvo’s family was cleared.

County police say they’ve already begun changing how warrants are executed, while the sheriff’s department didn’t immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
