WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has called Russian President Dmitry Medvedev (dih-MEE’-tree med-VYEH’-dyev) to express his condolences for a suicide bombing at Russia’s busiest airport.

The White House says Obama strongly condemned what he called the “outrageous attack” on innocent civilians and told Medvedev Tuesday that he was committed to working with Russia to combat terrorism. Thirty-five people were killed in Monday’s blast, and nearly 200 wounded.

The White House says Obama also congratulated Medvedev on ratification in Russia’s lower house of parliament of a landmark nuclear treaty between their two countries. The leaders pledged to build on the progress they made on the New START treaty in 2011.
