Just hours after the Senate rejected a Republican proposal to repeal the president’s new health care law, a national Republican campaign group released a video targeting West Virginia Sen. Joe Manchin, a moderate Democrat facing election next year who voted against repeal.

The video, produced by the Republican Senatorial Campaign Committee, aims to paint Manchin as a liberal who will side with the Obama administration despite conservative rhetoric on the campaign trail.

While campaigning, Manchin called the health care law “overreaching” and said he might vote to “repeal the whole thing.” The former West Virginia governor aired a campaign video last fall that showed him firing a bullet into the “cap-and-trade” energy bill while promising to “take on” the Obama administration.

Manchin won a special election last year to replace the late Sen. Robert Byrd, who died in office last summer. He faces re-election in 2012.

The group plans to target the ads to West Virginians online.
