“The Roommate,” which topped the box office charts during its opening weekend, is Hollywood’s reminder that possessive, crazy women frighten both males and females.

The poorly reviewed flick tells the story of Sara, a bright-eyed college freshman from Des Moines who loses the dorm roommate lottery when she’s paired with psychotic Rebecca, who quickly develops an obsession with the Iowa native. Sara tries to let her roommate’s unusual behavior slide, but outsiders immediately catch on to Rebecca’s craziness and even become victims of it.

“The Roommate” has several cringe-inducing scenes and murders, both of which are reminiscent of predecessor stalker flicks, “Misery,” “Fatal Attraction,” and “The Crush,” to name a few.

In recognition of movies about women who first appear normal and turn out to be certifiably insane stalkers, The Daily Caller brings you snapshots of film’s best femme fatales.
