In a Monday appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Rep. Heath Shuler said “there has been no communication whatsoever” between the Blue Dog Democrats in Congress and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.

“It’s very rare that she would come to our meetings and have conversation,” said Shuler when asked by host Joe Scarborough whether Pelosi had attended any Blue Dog Coalition meetings.

Later in the interview, Scarborough asked Shuler whether he was ideologically closer to Nancy Pelosi or Ronald Reagan, to which Shuler confidently replied, “Ronald Reagan,” but answered “neither” when asked to pick between Pelosi and George W. Bush.

Shuler ran against Pelosi for House minority leader after the Democrats “shellacking” in the November midterm elections. Pelosi easily defeated Shuler, 153-40, in the Democratic caucus vote.
