After more than a decade, Beyoncé’s father, Matthew Knowles, will no longer be managing her career. Although the songstress abruptly axed her own father as her manager, she insists the split was amicable and that their familial relationship remains strong despite the professional changes.

“I’ve only parted ways with my father on a business level,” Beyoncé told People magazine. “I am grateful for everything he has taught me. I grew up watching both him and my mother manage and own their own businesses. They were hardworking entrepreneurs and I will continue to follow in their footsteps. He is my father for life, and I love my dad dearly.”

Knowles has been managing his daughter’s career since she burst onto the music scene in the mid-90’s with the girl-group “Destiny’s Child.” The notoriously strict father-turned-manager is credited for helping Beyoncé start her solo career and eventually establish herself as one of the most iconic female musicians of the era. The circumstances that led to their professional split after experiencing such immense success are still unknown. The singing superstar, who is set to release an album later this year, has yet to hire a new manager.

“Business is business and family is family,” Matthew Knowles said in a statement. “I love my daughter and am very proud of who she is and all that she has achieved. I look forward to her continued great success.”
