Former Assistant Secretary of Defense Bing West’s new book “The Wrong War: Grit, Strategy and A Way out of Afghanistan,” provides an insider’s perspective on the war in Afghanistan. During a recent conversation, West discussed with me why he thinks this war may have been doomed from the start, and how it has ultimately proven to “[exceed] the capacity of America”.

“We wont really know how thing are going to turn out in Afghanistan until we watch what the Afghan soldiers do when they’re faced up against the Taliban,” he told me.

Only time will tell how the Afghan-American relationship will unfold, and with the 2012 Presidential election on horizon, the issue is bound to get plenty of attention.
