Rep. Michele Bachmann‘s office denied rumors Wednesday that she will announce her run for president at a May fundraiser in Iowa, according to a report from National Review Online.

TheDC’s Amanda Carey reported yesterday that Iowa politicos were expecting Bachmann to announce her presidential candidacy at a Polk County GOP fundraiser on May 26.

Bachmann’s office did not return TheDC’s requests for comment Tuesday but responded to NRO’s Katrina Trinko on Wednesday with a statement denying the speculations.

“Perhaps some of the presidential campaigns are irritated by Rep. Michele Bachmann’s presence in Iowa,” wrote chief of staff Andy Parrish. “That must be why they’ve resorted to the tired old political game of trying to hype expectations by making up stories about her upcoming trip to the Hawkeye State.”

“The Congresswoman is honored to be the Keynote Speaker at the Polk County GOP’s dinner on May 26th,” Parrish continued. “She’s looking forward to a wonderful night with those in attendance in Des Moines.”

NRO cited an anonymous Bachmann aide who also denied the rumor.

“She does not have a specific date in mind when she’s going to make that announcement. She’s getting closer to making a decision, but again, that [the May 26th announcement] was just a rumor,” the aide says.
