Was “W” too normal?

Blast from Past: Instapundit links to an old post of his discussing whether George W. Bush was enjoying being president, and whether if he wasn‘t that might impede his reelection campaign. The currently relevant implication: Normal people don’t win presidential campaigns. (Sorry Mitch.) Note the date of the post, however. It suggests Bush 43 wasn’t a normal unhappy normal president. He was a special, peculiarly anomic case–until 24 hours later, when he suddenly had a clear, achievable purpose. … P.S.: He promptly lost it again, once the war on terror normalized–pissing away much of his second term on doomed Social Security and immigration initiatives. …
