TUSCALOOSA, Alabama — Like many University of Alabama students, Emily Fuller fled Tuscaloosa after the April 27 tornadoes to go back to her hometown.

Unlike most others, Fuller’s hometown of Joplin, Mo., was decimated by an EF-5 tornado less than a month later, on May 22.

“I hate saying this, but I’m probably the only person in the world to go through both of those storms and then survive,” Fuller told the Tuscaloosa News.
