When Mitch Daniels declined to run for president in 2012, the central question became what would happen to all the Indiana Governor’s ardent supporters. On Monday, some of them went to potential presidential candidate Jon Huntsman.

Students for Daniels founders Max Eden and Michael Knowles have officially announced their endorsement for the former Utah Governor and Ambassador to China.  And according to the press release, the two “passed along the similar endorsement of 38 former Students for Daniels chapters.”

The support will be key to forming an effective youth coalition for the 2012 elections cycle.

“Jon Huntsman can bring young voters back into the Republican party because he is a serious candidate, a big thinker, and an authentic guy. He is a statesman, not just a politician,” said Knowles.

Eden praised Huntsman for his approach to the national debt, calling him the “strongest candidate” on the issue.

Huntsman recently announced his decision not to participate in the June 13 New Hampshire debate. Nor will he compete in the Iowa caucus. Last week, he told The Daily Caller an official campaign announcement could come in “the next week or two.”
