Anything to get the ratings up, right?

In an interview with Daily Beast writer Howard Kurtz, Fox News president Roger Ailes said he’d be interested in getting “unhappy” Secretary of State Hillary Clinton on board with the network.

“I’d like to hire Hillary Clinton,” Ailes told Kurtz. “She looks unhappy at the State Department. She’d get ratings.”

With television host Glenn Beck set to depart Fox June 30th, the network is looking for options.

On Beck’s exit, Ailes said, “his goals were different from our goals… I need people focused on a daily television show.”

This isn’t the first Clinton Ailes has considered hiring. Former-president Bill Clinton was also considered to join the ranks of FNC according to an Esquire interview with Ailes in January.

“If he would stick with current affairs and stick with the clock, he’d be one of the great talk-show people in the world,” said Ailes.

Among other leading political women garnering Ailes’ respect is former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. Ailes thinks it was wise to launch a bus tour, which has captured the attention of news outlets nationwide and fueled speculation that she’ll run for president in 2012.

“She’s so smart she’s got the press corps running up the whole East Coast behind her bus,” Ailes said of Palin.
